a broken fibula

i just wanted to update everyone, i went to the doctor for a follow up about some headaches i had been having... i decided since my foot was still very sore and tender in this one spot, that i'd have her look at it. they did an x-ray - turns out, i have a broken fibula - for anyone wondering, that is the smaller bone in the bottom part of your leg. the end of your fibula goes down into your ankle bones and that is where the injury occurred. have no fear, i'm fine. i am in a walking boot now. i'll be in the boot for a week, next week i go for another x-ray, fun times.

as my friends have reminded me, of all my falls, this one take the cake... i broke a bone... although i did have knee surgery from one as well, haha. what am i going to do?

i'll update later with some better stories, but wanted to update with the broken bone story for now.

chattanooga and SNOW

i started my week on the wrong foot. i woke up late yesterday and followed mapquest directions to sumter, sc - can someone please tell me why "br" stands for business on mapquest directions??? what should have taken me 2 hours took me more like 3 hours - nightmare. i made up for it on the trip back, 1 hour and 45 min, mom - be thankful i didn't get another speeding ticket, haha. so, quintiles has taken away our navigation privileges with hertz and they want us to use our navigation systems on our blackberries, not cool. the "telenav" system is horrible. every two minutes, it says, "you have no cellphone service. please move to an area where you have cell coverage." why would i move to an area to get coverage when i do not know where i am? someone please help justify this switch? quintiles didn't do their research on this one...i would like to know the monitors who were on the pilot program that tested this system - i think they were afraid to say what they really thought.... let me be part of one of those programs, haha.

so, i flew to chattanooga last night, get in my rental car, and i have navigation. hertz gave it to me, and i wasn't complaining - woohoo!!! so, i put in hilton garden inn and drive to my hotel...get there and the lady says, "we don't have a kelsey morgan staying here" - i'm thinking how did the idiot at quintiles travel mess up this time, especially knowing that i confirm my reservations now... so, she types in my confirmation number and says nope, not us. so, i pull up my confirmation/reservation all to find out that chattanooga apparently has two hilton garden inns, so i've gone to the wrong one, so, now i'm the idiot. so, i get back in the ford fusion - and drive to the other one... i'm so hungry and tired... all i want to do is eat and go to bed... and i'm thinking what will i eat.... you'll never guess what was right beside me.... who knows my favorite restaurant... TEXAS ROADHOUSE was right beside the other hilton garden inn....i was so excited, so that is where i went for dinner, then turned in for the night.

i had a visit today, only lasted about an hour or so...and the site said that it was snowing this morning... too bad i slept through it, i really want to see some snow!!! now i'm sitting here waiting on my tiny little plane. got lots to do to get ready for my housewarming party this weekend.

have a great rest of the week:)

raleigh and wish reunion

so, just to update you all, even though my foot is still very bruised and somewhat swollen, it is doing much better, i can walk normal for the most part and can wear a shoe, major improvements.

so, i went to raleigh on thursday for a regional meeting for work - it was great to see all my friends from the office that i don't get to see anymore. sometimes i wish i still went into an office, but then i think about the joys of working in my pajamas, and i forget about that thought. we had a social event friday evening and i had a blast, i'll post a picture or two when i find my usb connector... i got a good one of my friends doing the YMCA.

also, last night we went out for bay's birthday - always shenanigans. bay always manages to take and/or borrow an item from someone at the bar, so last night it was a pair of sunglasses. the bouncer at the bar threatened to kick bay out if she didn't take the "shades" off inside. i guess that is a dress code violation for inside of this bar. when we got home, holly and i were sleeping on the air mattress. bay has two animals - a jack russell terrier, norman and a blind cat, albert. while i have to say, they didn't bother me as much as i thought they would - let's just say i will never have inside animals. my sleep is too precious for cats jumping/roaming around and dogs moving since their hearing is so sensitive. norman and albert's favorite aunt is back to the fan and sound machine tonight, haha.

today i went to the wish reunion for the make-a-wish foundation at carowinds, it was amazing to meet some of the familes and wish kids that have been granted wishes over the past ten years. i really enjoyed meeting more volunteers - they were so incrediably nice to me. i cannot wait to start meeting my own wish kids - what an amazing opportunity.

off to sumter, sc and chattanooga, tn this week and then the housewarming party this week, woohoo!!! i promise, promise, promise there will be pictures this week, as the house will finally be ready. lindsey will be happy.

everyone have a great week.

goodnite!

pics of the foot

just thought i'd update everyone on my foot, i'm doing much better, getting around much better. the swelling and bruising is horrible and the pain is bad at night after being on it all day, but i think i'll survive. to those of you who haven't seen it, i thought i'd post a pic of the foot, warning: it looks worse than it is.

i'm going to the doctor tomorrow to make sure it is nothing major. so i'll keep you all updated.

i'm going to raleigh for a regional meeting at work this weekend. we are celebrating bay's birthday, i'm getting my haircut by my hair stylist that i love (i haven't found one in charlotte yet), and maybe going to the carolina game.

a loud thump and a swollen ankle

so, i return home today from being gone all week, and 20 minutes later i found myself lying at the bottom of my staircase in tears. so, i was running down the steps and missed the bottom 6 steps... so as if missing the first 3 steps and hitting the wall wasn't bad enough, i miss the next three and land on the hard wood - i felt like every bone in my body was broken and knew for sure that i was dead, haha - clearly if you can still think that, you aren't right?

anyway, i managed to crawl back up the stairs to get my phone, all to realize that i had a land line phone downstairs the whole time - such a bright one, i tell ya. so i immediately call my moma, all kids want their "mommies" when something goes wrong - which brings me to my next point. i always call my mom right when something like this happens, when i am so upset that i can barely form words. she always, always, always says, "kelsey, i can't understand you." i should learn to call her after i calm down, but i just want her right then. haha. so, mom, a note to you, after 25 years i haven't stopped doing that, so i probably won't, just letting you know.

so, i have followed all the guidelines for sprains tonight - to keep from having to visit the wonderful emergency room - although the nice baseball size swollen egg on the side of my ankle has tempted me to go have it checked out several times tonight. i have put ice on it, elevated it, and wrapped it with an ace. i am still going to see the olympic gymnasts tomorrow, so i'll take the trusty crutches from when i had knee surgery and be on my way. just thought i'd update with a funny story about how clumsy i am.

have a great sunday everyone!

a world with no coke and a week of travel with no sound machine, AHHHHHHH

so for anyone who knows me, you know that the thought of ME not drinking coke is enough to make me crazy - and then you are probably thinking, i am glad i am not around her right now, haha. well, you probably know that i inherited moma's bad headaches, so i went to the doctor last week and i started taking this miracle drug, topamax. my friend valerie had told me about it, so i knew about some of the side effects before talking to my doctor about it, so that is where the name "miracle drug" came from. the main side effect that my friend valerie has experienced is weight loss - 37 pounds to date - val, you look great!!! the other thing, which will probably help me the most, is that anything with carbonation taste horrible. so, this is where the no coke comes into play... i haven't had a coke since last wednesday. oh my gosh, i am dying. i just want one so bad. i know the craving will go away, but i love it, and it is like it doesn't even exist anymore. it is a good thing that i like to drink water. the other good thing is at least i'm taking a drug for headaches, so i'm not having the withdrawal headaches as bad as i normally do when i try to stop drinking coke, haha.

next thing, last night my sound machine stopped working in the middle of the night. anyone who knows me, knows i have to have my "round of applause" as crystal calls it, or my "noise makers" as my dad calls it on while i sleep or what, " I CAN'T SLEEP" so i kept waking up last night, no good. i will be buying a new travel sound machine when i get home, so let's hope i can make it through tonight - i am in boston.

speaking of boston, i am here during the baseball playoffs.... no one here is happy as the redsox can't seem to get it together, haha.

another thing, i wasn't going to mention my dating life on here, but i figure why not have it bring more humor to everyone's life. i've gone out with a guy on a few dates, and we went to a corn maze on sunday. just thought i'd pass on the information to everyone. if you are looking for a fun and creative date, it is a great idea. we had a blast. don't worry i'm weird, i'm still picky as always, so who knows when i'll finally meet someone that i'll actually date, but just thought i'd pass on the information about the corn maze.

gotta run, mandatory work dinner again tonight. i hate it when i don't know what i am eating, so wish me luck. last night they tried to get me to eat to veal - negative.

i have the best dad in the world and stupid plumbers

ok, so my dad came up last night so we could go get my dresser that had been on back-order for months, so now my clothes are in the dresser, where they should be. we carried that thing up the stairs, and i'm not really sure how. that was by far the heaviest thing i have ever had to carry.

so, i'm so thankful for my dad coming to do that, when he gets the idea to mount my new flat screen tv, haha. i was really nervous about him doing this, but he insisted that he knew how to do it. he proceeded to hang it, and it looks great! my dad is amazing, saved me $200 that i was going to have to spend to get someone to professionally hang it.

taking a shower in luke warm water that quickly turns to freezing has got to be one of the most annoying things ever. i jump in the shower, and i basically have about 3 minutes max to take a shower before losing all semi-warm water. remember when you were at summer camp, and you had like two minutes to take a shower with other campers at that, well i feel like that camp counselor is standing outside of my shower saying 1 minute to go or 30 seconds left. shaving my legs is relatively pointless, because i can't possibly do that in the time limit i am given. so this brings me to my next point: my stupid plumbers.

i have now had a total of three different people come and no one can figure out why i don't have hot water. i have luke warm water right now, which is better than the cold i had for the first three days, but seriously, how many different people does it take to get this situation resolved. i have a visit today, and joe smo upstairs is calling his plumber buddies to figure out the problem - i need to take a shower!!! this is no fun, there have been plumbers in my house at least two times a week since i moved in. my builder is out of town this week, so this is loads of fun.

my life is boring right now

so, this weekend was pretty uneventful in the sense that i spent the entire weekend pretty much organizing and unpacking so more, fun times, let me tell you. the highlight of my weekend were my visitors, holly beam, susan, and kathryn all came to see me this weekend. holly and went to macaroni grill saturday night, and then watched the carolina football game, woohoo - they won!!! sunday susan and kathryn stopped by after kathryn's soccer game, i really appreciate them driving to see me.

i also tried a new church this past sunday - it wasn't for me. i really like contemporary churches - and this church was traditional to the tee. they had pews, hymn books, an organ, an orchestra, offering time, and the preacher preached for way too long. i will venture out for a new one this sunday - wish me luck.

i will try really hard to post pictures tomorrow of my house.

have a great week. i travel to sarasota, florida with scott this week. i can't wait to hang out and catch up - i feel like i haven't seen my quintiles friends in forever.

atlanta fun and the weekend

ok, so i've been in atlanta for the past few days - fun times. i actually got to see kelly last night which was awesome. we had fun catching up, and i miss her like crazy. i also had the pleasure of meeting my lead on my study, who i thought hated me. she was actually a lot nicer in person and even invaded my personal space and gave me a hug. maybe she won't bless me out next week, haha.

i'm excited about this weekend:)

missed flight and flooded hotel room

so, i get the airport today exactly 1 hour and 12 minutes before my flight leaves at 4:20pm all to find out i left my power cord at home, so i quickly jump back in the car and go home to get it. i return to the airport by 3:30 - and get inside the terminal 37 minutes before my flight leaves. the airline attendant proceeded to tell me that i could get on the plane, but my baggage could not. i'm trying to beg this lady to find a way to get my bag on the plane, when she looks up and says, you can no longer get on the plane, the 30 minute window is up. so, i have now managed to miss my flight, i get put on the next one to atlanta, no biggie, leaves at 6pm. everything seems to be fine, and then i get to atlanta. i received an email saying that someone would be waiting on me with a sign that said quintiles and my name. well, that didn't really work as easily as i thought. i am walking around back and forth inside waiting on this magical man with my name on a sign - i'm thinking why can't i find this man... he forgot about me. how will i ever get to the hotel, knowing the lead on this study hates me. finally someone leads me to a "limo" lot. i'm thinking, why have they set up a limo, i just need transportation. turns out, galleria limo is waiting on me in the limo lot - poor guy was about to give up on me. he thens tells me that the hotel isn't far away, but 45 minutes later, we arrive at the hotel. meanwhile, he can't speak a bit of english - talk about a language barrier. i gave him a 2 dollar tip, and i'm pretty sure he was annoyed, oh well. then i get to the marriott - note hilton properties are much better. i go to room 321 - my assigned room - all to find a room that looks like it has been flooded, there are those industrial sized fans all over the floor, the rooms smells like mildew, everything is off the floor, and the bedding and sheets are piled in the middle of the bed... i'm thinking, what the heck? so, i go back down to the lobby desk and get a new room, and finally i am here. i am tired, so i think i'm going to go to bed in a few.
